The problem is real — and urgent
If you believe no woman, no man, no child — should ever suffer abuse, exploitation, or violence simply because of their gender.
GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE(GBV)
At Romic Care Foundation (ROCAF), we believe no one — no woman, no man, no child — should ever suffer abuse, exploitation, or violence simply because of their gender.
We believe safety is a human right, not a privilege. We believe silence protects perpetrators, but action empowers survivors. We believe that the value of a person is not determined by power, wealth, or status — but by their dignity, and that dignity must be defended at all costs.
We do this work because we’ve sat with survivors. We’ve heard their cries. We’ve stood in courtrooms to seek justice for the voiceless. We’ve walked beside a girl after defilement, a mother after beatings, a boy after torture. We’ve seen the pain — and we choose not to look away.
The problem is real — and urgent
In Uganda:
of women have experienced spousal violence
of women and 44% of men believe that wife beating is justified.
Over 17,000 GBV cases were reported in 2022 — and those are only the ones we know of
At ROCAF, we don't just talk about it — we act. In 2024 alone, we supported survivors of 408 reported GBV cases, including:
- 370 cases of domestic violence and defilement
- 28 children tortured
- 19 survivors of rape
- 2 unsafe abortions
These numbers are not just statistics — they are people, many of them children, whose lives were torn apart by violence but held together through care, justice, and support. This is what we believe:
- Survivors are not just victims — they are fighters who deserve support, not pity
- Every act of justice heals a family, a community, a generation
- No child should be afraid to sleep in their own home
- And when we protect one person’s rights, we protect everyone’s future
What we do — because of what we believe Since 2017, ROCAF has provided:
- Medico-legal examinations and medical treatment
- Counseling and trauma support
- Court testimony by our expert medical team to ensure perpetrators are convicted and survivors receive justice
- Community education, stakeholder coordination, and service mapping
- And we are working toward a 24/7 One-Stop Crisis Centre for holistic GBV survivor care
You don’t have to be a lawyer or doctor to make a difference. You just have to care.
We’re not asking you to support us because we have a good plan.
We’re asking you to walk with us because you believe what we believe.
